Naturally, the 61st Aegean Rally will feature environmental initiatives, such as cleaning up a coastline that will be indicated by the municipality. Additionally, a sailing festival will be organized, which has been jointly put together with the Syros Nautical Club and HORC.
The boats will start the last leg of the event from Finikas and will head south towards Sifnos which they will have to leave to starboard and then take a course towards the rocky island of Agios Georgios with the intention of bringing family members of the competing athletes along to witness the race firsthand. They will then sail, leaving Serifos to port, towards Finikas on Syros, covering a distance of roughly ninety nautical miles. The Onex Cup, a 36-nm race, and the JOTUN Cup, an 80-nm race, are the two local sailing competitions that will get underway from Finikas. As the race dates get closer, further sporting and cultural events will be announced on the event’s official website (www. aegeanrally.gr), during which they will also have to leave to starboard in order to finish, as always in recent years, under the temple of Poseidon at Sounio, having traveled approximately 100 nautical miles.
The 61st Aegean Rally’s entire course will be roughly 350 nm in the heart of the Aegean Sea. If the meltemi winds are favorable this year, as opposed to 2023 when apneas took the lead, the race will show how challenging it can be once again. The 61st Aegean Rally will conclude with the customary prizegiving ceremony at the stunning Aegean Naval Administration facilities at the historical location in front of the Themistocles monument in Piraeus. There, the crews will renew their appointments for 2025 after receiving their awards in front of the military and political elite.
